Brachina Gorge is a popular place to visit in The Flinders Ranges National Park in South Australia.
Yellow-footed rock-wallabies, birds and reptiles flourish in the protected environment of the Brachia Gorge. The Brachina Gorge Geological Trail shows the history of the geological development of our ancient land. Arkaroola, Driving Conditions.
The road to Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary is one of shale that can shred tyres so take it easy if you wish to go there. Reg and I have been there twice. We love Arkaroola. We did not enjoy the drive.
Why on earth do people tell you road conditions are good and you can travel a bad 260 k trip in 2 hours? In reality the road conditions were pretty bad and I would suggest you travel under 80k/h.
The creek crossings were bad. The washouts were washed out, the basic road repairs were very basic, the grids were well exposed Allow a day to do the trip and stay overnight at Arkaroola. Give yourself time for photo stops. Yes we loved it there. Yes it is hard on the vehicle. Fuel, milk, bread, everything is very expensive at Arkarookla. Totally understandable I think. Pack some powdered milk and dry biscuits and don't complain. Take the ridge top tours when you get there and open your mind to the beauty of a rugged landscape. It is magnificent, though I have heard people complain there was nothing there but rocks. Some MAGNIFICENT ROCKS :-). Don't go if you can't afford vehicle or tyre repairs. It is a possible hazard of that trip.
