Is the Neenish tart as Australian as it is sweet.
Neenish (pronounced ninish) was a Cornish word meaning little tart or pie.
These tarts, with their bright two tone icing is a appear in many Australian bakeries.
I have never eaten one. Anything with bright coloured icing doesn't appeal to me. Iced pastries would be way too sweet and sickly for my taste buds. I also proper eating whole foods, unrefined carbohydrates. I look at those and think 'sugar diabetes and rotten toes.' That's enough to turn me off even wanting to get used to foods sweeter than fruit. Now show me a luscious peach and I'll get excited.
Some say that they got their name from a Mrs Ruby Neenish in 1913. But there is no proof especially as the recipe was published in a cookbook in 1901.
Neenish is an old flemish word meaning. Actually, it is so old, no one can remember what it means.
Garish is the word for the appearance of those Neenish Tarts.
Don't bother cultivating a taste for them.
I don't give garbage a second glance in the shops. I'd be looking for the multi grain bread not the stuff that makes people ill while expecting science the find a cure for their self inflicted misery.
Some will call me a kill joy for warning people of the risk of diabeties from eating like this? It's worth putting up with some not liking me for encouraging people to live their lives to the fullest.
