I’m sharing our travel checklist
Preparing for a Road Trip in Australia,
Full car and caravan service. Good tyres, including the spare/s.
Complete all health checks and dental check-ups before leaving. Carry three moths supply of medicine. Do not expect to be able to get your prescriptions filled in remote towns.
Up-to-date auto insurance and car registration.
Don't use a cheap mobile phone service provider, select one that gives you wider coverage.
If travelling in outback Australia, use local knowledge and DO NOT TRUST your GPS device.
Pack healthy snacks and two weeks supply of fresh water. Grocery shop for light weight non-perishables. Don't overload. Keep the weight distribution centralised and even. Do not overload the caravan.
A good way to carry less clothing is to restrict the colour choice no one main colour and a neutral so that everything coordinates. You can layer clothing to suit all seasons weather.
eBooks are ideal for travellers. With my iPad, I don't even need to run a bedside light. Have car chargers for all your handheld electronic equipment.
Morning of Your Trip:
Go through the checklist every morning before heading off:
Are the tail lights and turning indicators working?
Did you turn the gas for your refrigerator off and connect it to the car battery?
Are all lights in the caravan off?
Are the caravan's vents closed?
Are the caravan's feet wound up?
Are the level riders and safety chains on?
Is the caravan brake off?
Keep your checklist near the driver's seat.
Go through in every time you are about to drive off, and do the reverse of those instructions when you settle in for the evening.
Don't tow your caravan at night, Give the commercial truck drivers the road. No point to travelling the country if you can't see beyond the glare of headlights.
Don't travel at dusk or dawn. The dozens of wildlife you might kill when you travel at those hours will appreciate it, as might your car and family.
Settle into your overnight stop by 4 pm.
Be fire-safe. Use designated fireplaces and follow local fire restriction rules. Always extinguish a fire before leaving.
