After more than two years' and at the time this blog is written, the boat ramp at the Lake Purrumbete Caravan Park is back in service.
Inflows to the Lake, following recent rains, have lifted the level of the Lake to more than a metre higher than it was this time last year.
Frank Gleeson, Parks Victoria Ranger-in-Charge, said that the rain has been very welcome. "Over the weekend fishing boats up to 15 feet (4.5m) were being launched at the Caravan Park boat ramp, which has not been possible for more than two years.
"I know that the recreational fishers are very happy and are choosing to launch their boats at the Caravan Park facilities as the temporary boat launching access installed by Parks Victoria is now underwater," Mr Gleeson said.
Water is continuing to flow into the lake and it is expected that even larger vessels will be able to use the ramp in the coming weeks.
Parks Victoria installed the temporary boat launching access in January 2010. It was constructed to provide boat access to the lake after the water had fallen and the Caravan Park ramp was no longer useable.
"The Lake Purrumbete Angling Club and the Committee of Management have helped us maintain it, and it has proven to be a great success. Now that it is underwater and the ramp at the Caravan Park is back in service the temporary boat launching site will be closed until such time as it is required in the future," added Mr Gleeson
Any one intending to launch a boat at Lake Purrumbete can phone the Lake Purrumbete Caravan Park on 03 5594 5377 for the latest information.
