Mallacoota Scenic Coastal Walk works begin today
Parks Victoria will today commence works on the Mallacoota Scenic Coastal Walk, focusing on the section between the town and Davis Creek Beach.
The works that commence today represent a small section of the overall Mallacoota Scenic Coastal Walk which will eventually extend from the town to link through to the Croajingolong walk near Pebbly Beach, thus creating an iconic walk for Far East Gippsland.
The Mallacoota based Parks Victoria team along with local contractors Leigh & Fran Cockburn (Tripple Co P/L) will be focusing their efforts initially on the 2.5km of track, particularly the Casuarina and Heathland tracks located between the Mallacoota township and Davis Creek beach.
Parks Victoria Ranger in Charge Mr Darryl Burns said that they will be undertaking maintenance and track upgrades on this section, which will involve slashing, gravelling and drainage improvements to both existing walks.
“The aim is to replicate the width and standard of track surface similar to the Shady Gully walk, which was recently upgraded.
“Additionally, this work will be complemented by the replacement of the narrow footbridge across Davis Creek, for which the Department of Sustainability and Environment has allocated funding for at a later date” said Mr Burns.
“We are delighted to kick-start the Mallacoota Scenic Coastal Walk project as we know it will become a popular drawcard for visitors in the future, improving the experience for both cyclists and walkers, as well as provide a new opportunity for locals to further explore their area” concluded Mr Burns.
Parks Victoria and the East Gippsland Shire Council are working in partnership together to deliver this exciting project which has been funded by Regional Development Victoria.
