As I have always had some degree of visual disturbance, partly due to the dyslexia I have had since childhood and also because I had a period when I was technically blind following a stroke at age 32 a vision problem I recovered from gradually over about 7 years. I have always been very interested in any news about Macula degeneration. I do not take vision for granted. This is some of the latest information I have found out about the eye health of seniors.
A study at the University of Iceland found that “over one in 10 people in their 60s and nearly one in four in their late 70s have an early form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).” According to study author Dr. Fridbert Jonasson, other recent studies have found that antioxidants and a diet rich in “fatty fish” may lower the risk of AMD.
