No Fishing signs are all along the Murray River at Cobram.
Friends went away for the week to fish and returned disappointed, they could not find anywhere along the bank that did not have a 'No Fishing' sign.
I do not know why. Do you?
I know it is not the Murray Cod season until the 1st of December, and the river is very high due to recent flood water and the mosquitoes pose a health risk, but I am wondering if there is any other reason why fishing is currently banned on the Murray river at Cobram and how far along the river, this ban extends.
In doing a little on line research I read that the Murray Cod is very susceptible to handling and it is illegal to remove it from the water (even to remove a hook), during the closed season of August through til November, so I am assuming it is an action to protect the Murray Cod and also to maintain as many fish species in the river as possible in an attempt to have some control over the current explosion in mosquito population that has caused the ban.
But I am only guessing here. I would love to know the actual reason.
If you have any information about this, I would love to know more.
Murray Cod fishing ban in South Australia lifted other than for the closed season, August through till November.

11/5/2015 14:45:29 The ban on fishing is between the weir at Yarrawonga and the old rail bridge at Tocumwal and the reason is to protect the Trout Cod that breed in that area during the Spring. I heard from a fishing shop recently that the ban may be lifted soon as the population of Trout Cod is doing very well and the ban may not be needed any more. We can only hope! I live in the area and have to travel to either lake Mulwala or Tocumwal to fish during Spring.
Thank you. Jason.
