One of the reasons I don't travel a great deal in Summer is the high risk of bush fires. We were almost caught in an emergency situation last week and just escaped the area half an our before the fire swept though it.
Today, as summer draws to a close, here in Victoria we are still enduring a bush fire season and relying heavily on Autumn rains to help extinguish fires in the impossible to access by vehicle mountain ranges. The firefighters have done an incredible job striving to protect life and property and sadly lost two of their own in the effort.
Some good news of relief on the way today from Victorian High Country "The rain is coming down in bucket loads here in Sale. How is your neck of the woods doing?"
Where we are, hot dry winds, and high dry grass in the Goulburn Valley between the river gums is a disgrace, it should have been cleared while they could do it in Springtime. I've never seen so much fast fire fuel on the ground so close to the city of Shepparton and the smaller towns beyond. Common sense has gone. Everyone who protests clearing excess fire fuel on the ground should be forced to the front of the line when the fires are fought.
