Yea River Wetlands Park
The Yea River Wetlands Park is on the Yea River behind Cummins Reserve. The wetlands comprise of a series of billabongs and a branch of the Yea River formed through channel changes in the river, many years ago, before white settlement. The special beauty of the Yea River wetland is that it is right on the edge of town, you will see it from the road as you drive through the town. A wetlands walking trail has been developed that is accessible to all fitness levels Yea River Wetlands Walk brochures are available at the Yea Visitor Information Centre on 5797 2663. On the outskirts of the town, I saw the beautiful wetlands Maple, the Box elder (Acer Negundo). I have one growing in my own garden.
Yea is a small rural community just one and a half hour’s drive from Melbourne. It makes a good half way mark, stop when we are travelling from Mooroopna, our summer home studio, near Shepparton to see our daughter, Carla and her family in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne. I have always loved driving through Yea, stopping to walk in the area and painting the landscapes in the area.
SCENIC TRIPS The surrounding area is ideal for walks and scenic drives. It has some of the most beautiful natural landscapes, the Murrindindi Cascades, The Valley of a Thousand Hills, the lovely Killingworth River drive and the developing wine areas in many of the surrounding valleys.
