Reg and I extended our stay in the delightful Sunshine Coast hinterland town of Maleny. This picturesque town is high in the Blackall Range, and the area is renowned for its scenic views over the coast and the incredible, Glass House Mountains.

I spent a day in Maleny checking out the arts, craft, gift stores and organic food shops. The cafes in Maple Street (main street) Maleny no longer allow you to be seated at the pavement outside tables with a dog on a leash. They say for ‘health laws’. Forgive this dog lover for saying how about banning people smoking outside while you are eating outside before saying your small dog sitting quietly at your feet is a health risk.  Reg, Indigo and I would have sat and had refreshments, in the town, if it had, been allowed.

In the lovely mountain top town of  Mapleton, Indigo was not only allowed to sit beside us as we ate at the outside tables, but they provided a dogs drinking bowl for her.  Now that is hospitality.

We would have explored the walking trails, through the rain forests, of the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, even if we had done this, one at a time, with one of us staying back near the car minding the dog, but no, they even restricted dogs from entering the car park so we could not even pull up to admire the view.

Surely, the cars pollute more that a dog and poor behavior could be abolished with huge fines for irresponsible dog owners, I just think this beautiful country should not be made difficult to travel around for people who tour with a well-mannered dog.

I guess I am a little stroppy over the amount of restricted places where dogs cannot go. I don’t intend to make a habit of putting Indigo into a kennel, we will just not go to places like Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve and the retail venues there  and discover lovely  McCarthy lookout, further up the road, where we took gorgeous pictures.
