Wildflowers and Cottage Garden Flowers.

From my travel diary:

Paynes Find, located 420kms from Perth on the Great Northern Highway, is one of the most spectacular wildflower areas in Western Australia during the wildflower season, July – October.

Today at Paynes Find, I saw white, pink and yellow everlastings and purple and yellow flowering shrubs.

Paynes Find is a tiny community, a tavern and petrol station mixed business where they serve the yummiest pies, I bought a chicken and vegetable one for me and a chunky beef pie for Reg and we ate this while walking through wildflower drifts and having a refresher from the driving.  Reg showed me how large the beef chunks were and commented 'that it was all beef, no thickened gravy as in normal pies'.  LOL, I didn’t spoil his pleasure by telling him that two pies and one take away coffee had cost over $17. Dollars, you get what you pay for.  For me it was worth the cost, I’m still getting over this flu, and I needed a break from driving to avoid fatigue and something good to eat is not all that easy to come by in roadside stops, I did appreciate that extra special choice of these gourmet pies.

Leaving Paynes Find the road side view of wild flowers was incredible and occasionally electric blue patches of the Western Australia, Lachenalia, mingled with the patches of yellow, then pink then white.

Caution was required driving as very wide vehicles are as frequent here as they were throughout the Pilbara.  I was so glad I had taken that break to eat, drink coffee and walk around Paynes Find as there was a serious accident involving a huge truck roll over, as I was leaving the town. It had happened around the time I would have been traveling that stretch of road, tired, if I had not stopped to freshen up.
It was a stark reminder to take extreme care on these roads, slow down, the constant warning vehicles that say, 'wide load ahead', don't always indicate a vehicle that demands that you pull over and stop off the road but sometimes it does mean that and if you are going quickly or take the chance you don't actually need to pull off the road, it would be easy to end up rolled over in the gutter. There were also, wild goats crossing the road, animals are common on the road in outback Australia, expect anything.
I drove at 80 km or under, according to my ability to see the full road ahead.

Paynes Find is a former gold rush settlement approximately 430 kilometres northeast of Perth in the Mid West region of Western Australia. It is reachable by the Great Northern Highway.

I’ve travelled this route twice now, it was even more beautiful this year than last year and last year was the best wildflower season for 7 years in Mullewa, so I’m eager to see what Dalwallinu and Mullawa have to offer in the Wildflower way, I think this year it’s going to be an incredible wildflower  season.

If travelling to Western Australia to see the wildflowers, remember the timing of the blooms depends on the rain fall, check with the tourist information centers to find out where and when to see the wildflowers if your specifically coming to see them.
