I am about to write a cozy mystery novel set in rural high country of Victoria similar to Daylesford and Hepburn Shire and the Mount Macedon and Mount Dandenongs.
You may be familiar with our former gallery at Buninyong, also in the Central Highlands of Victoria, and the paintings I've done of these areas.
I'll now enjoy writing about them.
"Hoomumma has been going into a trance all morning and needs to be spoken to (or barked at) twice before she noticed others. She made an excuse about it being day one of writing a new novel."

Fountain pen and ink country building landscape drawing. Learn how to draw a landscape that features a tumbling down shed on the outskirts of the historic old gold mining town of Clunes, Victoria, Australia. Thank you to Daryl Raine for the reference photos that I used to create this sketch.
Always a perfect day to take time to smell the roses. Happy creativity friends.
The empty swing. My pen and wash artwork to show the effect of Covid-19 on Australian playgrounds for most of this year. I'm happy that most stayed away from public gatherings and thus helped control the spread of the pandemic here. Do what's needed in your area to Stay Safe.
What is Line and Wash Art?
Line and Watercolor Wash [Australian Landscape] Rusty Rustic Oil Barrels. Line and wash drawing is also classed as painting. Its often named Pen and wash drawing. and it is one of the visual arts' mixed mediums. The paper is marked out by pen, pencil or paint lines, and then tinted with diluted ink or watercolour.
The technique has been known since the 13th-century when Chinese artists used transparent ink washes to create delicate atmospheric effects. The line-and-wash technique became familiar to European artists during the Renaissance in the early 15th century. Cennino Cennini taught pen drawing enhanced by brushwork.

Colour is Interconnected with all other Senses.
One of my greatest joys was having blind children visit my Buninyong Gallery. They came so that I could give them paintings to feel and for the chat I'd give on sharing how they might understand colour.
Lemon colour is fresh like the smell of lemons. Lime is a vibrant, bright green, smell the lime leaves and imagine the colour lime. Violet is soothing and restful—smell the lavender and imagine violet. Emotions smell and colour all interconnected. Red, the healing colour, the colour of oxygenated healthy blood, feel the warmth of a fire and think of flickering interactions of red, orange, yellow, with white-hot core, white also for purity, swell the delicate fragrance of a white rose, and grief—smell the lily. The blue-greys in the smoke, as the heat cools—move from sunshine into shadow and imagine the colours changing from the hot colours to the cooler blues, blue-green and blue-violet. Move deeper into the shade, fool yourself becoming cooler, and imagine those cool colours becoming darker.
I could get carried away talking about colour to people who also love the subject. I loved reaching to responsive students.

Ruth Randall's novel "A Judgement in Stone," opens with this line.
"Eunice Parchman killed the Coverdale family because she could not read or write."
In open mystery novel, the reader knows who the murderer is, from the beginning; the mystery is why, and how, they did it, and if they will be caught.
In The Stolen Years series of novels, the reader has a view of who commits many of the crimes. There is plenty of suspense while no one else suspects who the murderer is.
The Stolen Years Series
From an Australian bestselling author comes mystery thriller of determination to find one's place in a world that men are threatening to tear apart.
Psychological thrillers often deal with characters who have post traumatic stress disorder often caused by a mysterious suspenseful situation as happens within The Stolen Years Series of novels by Ryn Shell.
Noir or hardboiled, often detective fiction is a genre of crime novels featuring detectives or private detectives who see the dark, edgy side of life. As in The Stoles Years, Ryn Shell is writing of a dark side of Australian history these novels fit the rural noir sub-genre. These novels by Ryn Shell are lightened, to make the reading enjoyable, by the family saga story of resilience and love.
Historical mystery genres are often crossed with other genres. Ryn Shell has always combined two or more genres or sub-genre in the telling of the complex stories in her books. Her characters come to life in her head while she writes them and demand more.
