This is my vintage Montblanc 311 fountain pen teamed with Montblanc Oyster Grey ink on 65g Tomoe Paper.
This is one of my regular use pens.

I have read that the Monblanc 310 is the same pen with a steel nib.

Weight & Dimensions
This Montblanc 311 fauntain pen pen measures 13.7cm caped and un-caped measures 12.4cm and is very light in weight. I am guessing that the nib is solid gold.

The gold nib looks and writes beautifully, and it's a comfortable balance in my short stocky arthritic hand, an easy pen to use for a long writing session.
The seller described it as "Very Rare." I think that was 'sales talk,' perhaps others here could tell me if that's true and if so its value. It is glossy black. This lovely fountain pen has the Montblanc logo on the end of the pen and on the top of the cap.

I bought it, with another Montblanc, from the son of the former owner, South Yarra, Victoria, Australia, who'd used it (one owner) since the 1970s.
It came with a wet ink cartridge in it, ready to write.

I purchased a new Montblanc converter for it as I prefer to refil from bottled ink. It has, I believe, only been filled with Montblanc ink., and I will continue to match the brand of the pen with the ink brand for it as recomended by the manurfacturer.

It gave me cold starts when I first used it. I'm learning you need to expel some ink before a day's writing session, if you haven't used it for over a week—not something I need to do with my first choice for a grab and know I'll get an even flow from first stroke Lamy 2000 fountain pens.

The Montblanc 310 is the the steel nib version of this fountain pen.
The Montblonc 311 is the gold nib version of this fountain pen.
The 320 is the the piston fill version of this fountain pen.

My Montblanc 311 fountain pen has small wire protruding loops to that the cap locks to, similar to the way a Lamy 2000 cap attaches.  When I received my Montblanc 311, I thought it had wear marks around the clip, but one short cleaning session to remove the grime and those clips are sparkling and the ink window, hidden by the cap when closed, is easy to view without being obtrusive.
This is a beautiful pen. I know I got a bargain for what paid (not saying ) for it.

Value today - Priceless: If you can get hold of a beautifully working vintage pen, hang on to it, or at least make sure it goes to someone who willtreat it well and appreachiate it.

A premium resale price would ensure a rare vintage fountain pen, such as this, shouldn't fall into the hands of a pen abuser. I do respect a beautiful writing too.

Vintage "Montblanc 310 with steel nib or Montblanc 311 with gold nib" Fountain Pen-Black Cartridge Filler-Germany 1970s.
There was a time not so long ago when Montblanc made a mid price range fountain pens designed to be affordable to students in the mid to late 1970’s the 310 with its steel nib was designated for that purpose. The pen body and cap was made from black acrylic rather that a precious resin.
The cap contains a gold ring at the crown from which the gold plated clip is attached. I do not know what karat the gold is.
Back in 1906 a Hamburg banker, Alfred Nehemias and a Berlin engineer, August Eberstein recognised the signs of time and decided to produce simplicissimus pens.
After a short period of time Wilhelm Dziambor, Christian Lausen and later Claus Johannes Voss took over the business and thus laid the foundation for the future internationally successful company Montblanc.
Their first model was the "Rouge et Noir" in 1909 followed in 1910 by the pen that was later to give the company its new name: "Montblanc".
The name Meisterstück ("Masterpiece" for export) was used for the first time in 1924, for the top lines of fountain pens.
A trademark identified with Montblanc is the white star with rounded edges, representative of the Mont Blanc snow cap from above, the symbol being adopted in 1913.
The number "4810," the mountain's height in meters, is also a commonly recurring theme.
Specifications:-Colour: black-Cap band imprint: Montblanc Germany.
Size capped: approximately 5.2"
Country of manufacture: Germany
Time of production: 1976-1979
Where the cap mates to the body is gold ring and that is where the body unscrews from the nib section to access to the ink cartridge or Montblanc ink converter.

You are supposed to keep your fountain pens in use, at least once per week, if not daily. Now that I am plotting my next work in progress novel I have been neglecting to use all of my fountain pens at least once per week. That is why I purchased an ultrasonic cleaner so that I could thoroughly clean out some fountain pens and retire them. I use this pen in regular rotation with others for jotting down my plot ideas.

If it weren't for the occasional slow starts, I'd love my three Montblanc fountain pens more.

I'll try to show you a different fountain pen I use each Monday.
Hopefully, that will include handwriting improvements.
