Maleny: The prices quoted won't be relevant today. The location is as lovely as ever.
In 2010, we stayed at the Maleny Showgrounds where the powered sites were only $17. a night. (2010) Compare that to the fees down on the coast below us where they were $37, to $55. a night for a powered caravan site for 2 adults, and most do not allow dogs. No thanks, those fees are a bit rich if you are traveling for half the year and have another home to pay some fees for upkeep on as well, as most of the gray nomad generation have. Reg settled in here and enjoyed the being there and Indigo, our poodle of course adored the oval and her ball play.
Yes, showgrounds are an attractive middle of the road alternative to bush camping or caravan parks. Each has its own advantages. The showers where good, instant gas hot water service. We had a tap beside our caravan for drinking water. Nothing else we could need.
We intend to stay in Maleny for a couple of nights, and go to the Maleny Market, and then we planned to head off to another mountain township and stay at their showgrounds to explore the area, so a pleasant change from the seaside we had been visiting, and I'de been painting. Beautiful mountain views would feature as my next painting subjects as we would visit places to view the Glasshouse mountains while staying in Maleny.
For an additional, $12. a day there is a full gymnasium here a the Maleny showgrounds; it comes complete with weights, treadmills, exercise bikes, elliptical. I assume it is catering for all the sporting clubs that are using the two multipurpose ovals here.
I don't need a gym when there is an oval right outside my caravan. I succeeded in running 400 meters on several day. on that oval.
This was one way to stay a strong senior, for as long as I could, and enjoy life.
Reg and I have settled in the Goulburn Valley where I'm now focusing on bringing my painting skills to videos, to teach fine art to a new generation through art tutorial videos.
The splendour of the Australian bush captured in the words and work of Internationally acclaimed artist and author Ryn Shell.
Above is Reg at the caravan door, as photographed by Ryn, at one of our campsites on a writing about, and painting Australia trips.
