Covid_19 in Aged Care in Victoria

8/9/2020

Thank you to Author: Dr MJ dela Rama for compiling this list.

Here in aged care, three times my husband and I have been separated in separate rooms due to lockdown. 52 years married, 60 years best friend, and that was done for our safety.
This is a pandemic, not a picnic. It's not supposed to be convenient or fun. It's to save lives. That could be our loved one's life.

Re getting into aged care: He, my husband, came in first. At that point, I waited my turn—first I got a room on a different level, and was not always well enough to transit the distance between us. Now, we are diagonally opposite in the corridor. Too far, often for him, okay, most times for me.
I also full-time care for him, despite my own needs, during his awake hours. I give, and give, and give with love, and grieve at my husband's deterioration.

We have to protect those in aged care  by preventative measures. It isn't just you and your relatives in aged care, it is the other residents and all their relatives too.

I read of someone wanting to wanting to visit their mum, and in the same post, they say they work in aged care with Covid 19 all around them. If they let you in, they believe her 'I'm safe to be let in lie," then the aged care residents are in danger.
Sadly, the receptionist at the front desk cannot tell who is safe and who isn't, and relationship makes no difference.

Hello friends. I'm eight months into what has been the most dramatic life change for me since I announced to my Mum an age 13 that I wouldn't step inside the family home again—and I didn't. Transitioning to assisted living aged care (something I never thought I'd do,) was the right thing for Reg and me, and every day I give thanks that I found this place. My 'penthouse' studio is so well laid out and the magnificent rural views inspire me. Moving toward fountain pen and ink line with watercolour wash and some touch-up work with opaque mediums such as soft pastels has worked well for me and has been compatible with my remaining my husband's primary caregiver for all his waking hours.

What might not be working in YouTube—I am 'sensitive' when I receive emails from the combined Google YouTube organization suggesting I am breaching community standards—again. This time, my crime in touching on 'sensitive issues.' I follow through all the links knowing that I'm not flashing body parts or using four-letter words, or slandering folk—so what did D do wrong—this time? Horror—shocking—the video in question mentions the sensitive issue (as this does) of 'aged care.' Highlighted, as a sensitive and unsuitable topic was "Positive Attitude."
Heck, if I were to use two words to describe me it could well be, "Positive Attitude."
So, as I don't intend to change who I am, nor remove the offending video, this one:

Well, in some respects, YouTube is right. When I express who I am within a YouTube video I often get thumbs downs and unsubscribes as videos on YouTube tend to reach a lot of young ones whose idea of what a YouTuber is isn't someone reminiscing about their 1910 born mother's memories of a world pandemic and the roaring twenties of great economy and social improvement that followed two devastating flu seasons. I thought my chat offered hope to today's generation. I thought that was something of value I could talk about during an art demo.

For a while I create videos without showing myself, in words or looks' and these I relax and I am myself, and I chat on my videos as if you were my friends—which you are. Then, as has happened before, I get a "sensitive subject" "breaching community standards" reprimand from 'the top." Ugh!

The results are, I don't know where I am going with YouTube. Throughout my time here, two years and eight months, I have withdrawn over two-hundred YouTube videos, many of them I thought were my best art lessons, and many I felt were interesting history stories, but they'd all fallen flat with people wanting a hobby class, I never taught hobby classes and I'm not about to change, or there have been suggestions I'm on 'sensitive issues again. Well, if talk of being seventy-four and of the experience that brings with it is a sensitive issue, my love affair with YouTube must wain, as I don't intend to quit being me. I don't intend to pull down more videos because YouTube or some YouTubers don't like them. This is me going forth, doing whatever I like, saying whatever I like, and believing that there isn't anything inappropriate about my work.

Furthermore, I hope, if I keep being me, all who want me to be someone else will go find that someone, and I'll draw around me a core of genuine supporters. Maybe YouTube and Google might even employ mature age and mind computer programmers who realise that positive aging, or chats about art for the disabled, aren't controversial and sensitive issues.

so, I am still here creating YouTube videos, and I sometimes wonder why I bother, then someone comments, and they aren't doing it in the hope I'll support their channel, they give a thoughtful comment that proves they watched my video, gained something of value from it, and they took the time t to elevate my spirit by letting me know. I make the next YouTube video for for, that person who took the time to let me know they were there and were interested.
Thank you. :-)
Happy Creativity,
Cheers, Ryn.

'Old style cozy' as in not a witch, or a cat, or a bad boy alpha male (the type this older author would kick in the groin rather than have her heroine fall for) in sight.
That's the type of soft-boiled mysteries, and fifty-plus, older woman heroines who expects a man to treat her with respect, that Ryn Shell writes.

A cozy mystery is a good mystery novel without violence shown in the explicit detail of blood and gore and gritty details.
The stories feature an  amateur detective and often take place in a small town or community.  If sex occurs in the story, it is either alluded to, or takes place behind closed doors in the older style cozies.

Staying independent and mobile, to be able to get myself out of a chair without assistance is my superwoman stunt at age seventy-five.
Being blessed with an active and functioning mind, I can live with a mature age disability. I see this time as ideal to write mysteries full-time, tapping into a wealth of experience.

Reg is still my partner in life and my love, although he lives in aged care. We have marriage by iPhone messenger, and visits.
Reg approves of my plan to write romantic suspense once this cozy series is finished and published. He thinks my writing steamy sex scenes will keep me out of mischief.
