Painting a Tonal Pattern
After this studio lesson, my husband Reg brought coffee out to my student and me in the studio garden. I did a light-and-shade block-in of a rose as a demonstration painting, and we browsed flower painting art books.
Continuing the lessons in Light and Dark, Tonal Values.
Work dark to light, as your canvas is light and you seek to work efficiently. Choose a not too complex subject in a two dimensional form and you are effectively copying this across, sight size to another two-dimensional form, your canvas.

Painting the Warby HutI chose to work in a small scale of A4 size on a 300 gram textured 100% cotton acid free watercolour paper using flow formula acrylic paint to create a simple copy from the photograph - view side image. The paint brands I used were Maimari a very high quality Italian brand. I also have a few other brands of acrylic paint in my kit, chosen for convenience, as they are commonly available. |
Kick-Ass Women In History Fiction Series
Escapades: A fictional short read loosely based on "Nicchia," Virginia Oldoini, Countess of Castiglione, Napoleon III's favourite, an amazing woman who changed the course of history.
Cozy rating: No violence, mild appropriate to story language, and low heat rating. Historical Mystery
These, Kick-Ass women deserved to have their stories told. From Nicchia, in Escapades, who changed the borders of Europe to Rose, in Star Struck, mother and home business gardener who would not give up, and searched Australia's outback for her missing husband.
As for Jane, in Gold, learn of the shipwreck tragedy of the SS. Admella— fall in love with a woman who defied mid-nineteenth-century stereotypes. Co-written by Ryn Shell as Rose, and Linton the male hero's words adapted from the 1960's love letters sent to Ryn by her to-be-husband Reg Shell. This rural lit novel is a historical mystery and love story. You will be longing with Rose and Lynton for their happy ever after ending from their teenage coming of age with the moon landing, to the loss and a mystery surrounding Skylab's crash to earth over southern Western Australia, not the uneventful event NASA passed it off to be. An unusual and touching Australian story.
Cozy MysteryWhile hardly a small town traditional cozy, because the often hilarious action takes place across much of south - south-eastern Australia during 1859, Ryn Shell has focused on fun, friendship, and love in weaving together true stories from Australia's past into exciting historical fiction in the novel Gold
Gold, is a richly drawn, evocative, stand-alone novel.
ORPHANED, BETRAYED, and DETERMINED, Jane Mutta's adventures lead her to the 1850s Australian gold rush and encounters with (highwaymen) bushrangers. Amidst the dangers, there are rocky entanglements on a coach and steamship with the explorer Douglas Fife. To survive, she will need all her resources. Something different in the way of romantic historical fiction. This is an adventure through humour and historically tragic events. It is more than historical romance — judge for yourself; Miss Mutta breaks stereotypes. Author - Artist, Ryn Shell
