Driving Cairns to Port Douglas
The highway between Port Douglas and Cairns is impressive, with this panoramic seaside vista, mountain backdrops and cane fields. There are areas on both sides of the road where a driver can safely pull over to get out, have a stretch and admire the scenery. The road is in excellent condition and there is one, short distance that is steep.
This road has a 27 klms stretch of high car accident risk, area. It is a dangerous stretch of road, due to driver distraction and excessive speed. I have witnessed the driver error, myself. when a driver was steering his car towards a road corner, with his head turned, in the direction of the view, not looking at the road ahead, as he drove up a steep section of the road, towing a caravan. Glad; I was parked, off the road at the time so I could safely admire the view and was not in his path.
There are a lot more car park areas on the ocean side of the road and those who try to cross the road, to access these parks, could well be crossing the road, in front of a road bend in front of on coming traffic that would have no warning, that you could be directly, in their path.
It is best to wait until you find a park on your own side of the road before trying to take in the views if you drive this strip of road..
This area, see my photos, has a car park on both sides of the road.
There are plenty of view opportunities for the driver where you can see the coastline and mountains in your forward gaze.
Drive safely and enjoy the view from the roadside stops, of the Coral Sea, from one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world.

Gold, is a richly drawn, evocative, stand-alone novel.
ORPHANED, BETRAYED, and DETERMINED, Jane Mutta's adventures lead her to the 1850s Australian gold rush and encounters with (highwaymen) bushrangers. Amidst the dangers, there are rocky entanglements on a coach and steamship with the explorer Douglas Fife. To survive, she will need all her resources.
Something different in the way of romantic historical fiction. This is an adventure through humour and historically tragic events. It is more than historical romance — judge for yourself; Miss Mutta breaks stereotypes.
From an Australian bestselling author comes stories of determination to find one's place in a world that men are threatening to tear apart.
